The One Another Passages

In John 17 Jesus prays that we would be one, “so that the world may believe…”

The Scriptures are full of examples of what this love for one another looks like. Check out this list of “One Another Passages.”

1. LOVE ONE ANOTHER (the foundation)

This is the dominant category — the defining mark of Jesus’ disciples.

  • John 13:34–35 — Love one another as I have loved you
  • John 15:12 — Love one another as I have loved you
  • John 15:17 — This is my command: love one another
  • Romans 12:10 — Be devoted to one another in love
  • Romans 13:8 — Love one another
  • 1 Thessalonians 3:12 — Increase and overflow in love for one another

2. ACCEPT, WELCOME & INCLUDE ONE ANOTHER

The church becomes a family where outsiders become insiders.

  • Romans 15:14 — Instruct one another
  • Colossians 3:11 — No divisions; Christ is all and in all

3. SERVE ONE ANOTHER

The church is not a crowd consuming ministry; it is a body serving.

  • Galatians 5:13 — Serve one another humbly in love
  • 1 Peter 4:10 — Use your gifts to serve one another
  • Philippians 2:3–4 — Consider others above yourselves
  • Galatians 6:2 — Carry each other’s burdens
  • Hebrews 6:10 — Your work and love shown in serving God’s people

4. CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER

  • 2 Corinthians 13:12 — Greet one another

5. FORGIVE & RESTORE ONE ANOTHER

A kingdom community is marked by grace.

  • Ephesians 4:2 — Be patient, bearing with one another in love
  • Ephesians 4:32 — Forgive one another as God forgave you
  • Colossians 3:13 — Forgive whatever grievances you have against one another
  • James 5:16 — Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another

6. SUBMIT & HUMBLE YOURSELVES TO ONE ANOTHER

A community shaped by Jesus’ servant leadership.

  • Ephesians 5:21 — Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ
  • Philippians 2:5–8 — Have the mindset of Christ
  • 1 Peter 5:5 — Clothe yourselves with humility toward one another

7. TEACH, DISCIPLE & BUILD ONE ANOTHER

The church is a multiplying discipleship movement.

  • Romans 15:14 — Instruct one another
  • Colossians 3:16 — Teach and admonish one another with wisdom
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 — Build one another up
  • Hebrews 10:24 — Spur one another toward love and good deeds

8. PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER

Spiritual family carries each other before God.

  • James 5:16 — Pray for one another
  • Ephesians 6:18 — Pray for all the saints
  • 1 Timothy 2:1 — Prayers and intercession for everyone

9. LIVE IN UNITY WITH ONE ANOTHER

The church is meant to be a visible demonstration of reconciliation.

  • Romans 12:16 — Live in harmony with one another
  • Romans 15:5–6 — Live in harmony with one another
  • 1 Corinthians 1:10 — Agree with one another; no divisions
  • 2 Corinthians 13:11 — Live in peace with one another
  • Philippians 4:2 — Agree with one another in the Lord
  • 1 Peter 3:8 — Be like-minded, sympathetic, love one another

10. BEAR WITH ONE ANOTHER THROUGH SUFFERING

The family stays together under pressure.

  • Romans 12:10 — Honour one another above yourselves
  • Galatians 6:2 — Carry each other’s burdens
  • Ephesians 4:2 — Bear with one another
  • James 5:9 — Don’t grumble against one another
  • 1 Peter 4:9 — Offer hospitality without grumbling
